Negative Consequences of Drunk or Drugged Driving

Negative Consequences of Drunk or Drugged Driving

Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs has been the major cause of injuries and deaths on the road. A lot of people might have raised the question of which between the two is worse. To be direct to the point, neither is safe to do. Even if some states have legalized the use of marijuana, drugged driving cannot be considered as the lesser evil.

People who tried drunk or drugged driving may have committed themselves to a substance disorder treatment already because this habit must always be addressed. Our counseling services in Ohio cater to clients who have substance abuse disorders and have experienced driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Statistics show that about 30 people die in a drunk driving collision every day. As for drugged driving, 12.6 million Americans aged 16 years old and older drove under the influence of illegal drugs in the year 2018.

While drunk driving causes more fatal accidents each year, it cannot readily be concluded that drugged driving is less dangerous. A lot of our clients receiving substance abuse counseling in Reynoldsburg, Ohio have reported the different effects drugs and alcohol have on them. Both can seriously impair one’s ability to drive due to the changes it produces in the brain and one’s mobility and coordination. Both have depressive effects on the body which reduce activity in the nervous system. As a result, alcohol and drugs impair one’s judgment, concentration, and coordination.

To avoid accidents, liabilities, injuries, and deaths, be sure to drive sober. Whether it be alcohol or illegal drugs, these negative consequences equally apply if you drive under their influence of any of these. Practice abstention and call WCAP Counseling to get the help you need. We also offer telehealth therapy.
